Starbucks is making some big changes, and not everyone is thrilled. The coffee giant just announced that it’s slashing 30% of its food and drink menu by the end of 2025. Why? CEO Brian Niccol says they want to “clear the noise” and make room for “better innovation.”
What’s Getting Cut?
We don’t have a list yet, but Niccol hinted that items that “aren’t selling a lot” will be the first to go. If your favorite drink is a niche order, you might want to brace yourself. The company already dropped its Oleato line (the olive oil-infused coffee) in November, so expect more shakeups soon.
Why Is Starbucks Doing This?
The brand is trying to simplify things. A smaller menu means faster service and a smoother experience for both customers and baristas. Starbucks is also refocusing on its “coffeehouse community roots,” making changes to bring back that cozy, welcoming vibe.
Other Recent Starbucks Changes
Starbucks has been on a transformation spree since Niccol took over in September 2024. Here’s what else has changed:
- Free Refills Are Back! If you get a hot or iced coffee or tea and stay in-store, you can now get free refills. Just bring your drink in a ceramic mug, glass, or personal cup.
- Condiment Bars Return Missing those DIY sugar and milk stations? They’re making a comeback!
- No More Open-Door Policy Since 2018, anyone could chill in Starbucks or use the restrooms without buying anything. That’s no longer the case.
- Fewer Discounts Starbucks is cutting back on promotions and deals.
- No More Extra Charges for Non-Dairy Milk After pushback from animal rights activists and lactose-intolerant customers, Starbucks finally dropped the upcharge.
What’s Next?
With all these changes, Starbucks is redefining its brand. Some will love the new direction, while others will miss their go-to orders. If your favorite drink is on the chopping block, better enjoy it while you can!
What do you think about these changes? Yay or nay?
