Destination wedding in India

Dreaming of a destination wedding in an exotic locale but worried about breaking the bank? Fear not, because India’s got you covered. The Ministry of Tourism has rolled out a campaign that showcases India as the ultimate wedding destination, offering couples from around the world the chance to tie the knot in this beautiful country.

A Wedding Powerhouse called India

India is already a wedding powerhouse, hosting a whopping 25% of the world’s weddings. The wedding industry in India is on track to hit a whopping $50 billion by 2025. In recent times, there has been a surge in interest in destination weddings, and this government initiative aims to capitalize on that trend.

Jaideep Singh, a partner at the International Convention of Wedding Fraternity, believes that Indian wedding planners will make great use of this government opportunity. Destination weddings in India often gravitate towards scenic spots in the Rajasthan region, hill stations, and southern India. Now, with attractive deals and discounts from hotels and cities, local weddings might just shift to these mesmerizing destinations.

Mathangi Srinivasamurti from Weddings & Marigolds Studio in Chennai pointed out that travel and accommodation are key concerns for destination weddings. She hopes that government intervention, including better facilities, cleaner towns, and improved lodging options, will give destination weddings a boost.

Support that can make a huge difference

Shrawan Yadav of Shubh Muhurat Luxury Weddings in New Delhi highlighted several challenges in the destination wedding industry, including navigating complex regulations, ensuring top-notch services, marketing the location, and convincing couples to choose a destination without established government-backed credibility. Furthermore, infrastructure and logistics can sometimes be unreliable, and financial incentives may be lacking. Government initiatives are pivotal in supporting the wedding industry, enhancing global visibility for destinations, streamlining regulations, and upgrading infrastructure.

Ankush Widge of Wedding Space Co. in Mumbai praised the government’s campaign, emphasizing that destination weddings have become a fundamental part of the wedding industry, with a promising future ahead thanks to extensive promotion on social media.
Yadav revealed that out of the 20 weddings his agency organizes annually, 15 are held at Indian destinations, and five take place internationally.

The central campaign identifies approximately 25 key destinations across India, showcasing how India can fulfill couples’ wedding dreams in various ways. From stunning landscapes to sacred traditions and mouthwatering cuisine to cutting-edge infrastructure, the campaign captures the essence of India’s unique charm. This initiative isn’t limited to opulent weddings in ancient forts and palaces; it aims to redefine India’s image beyond extravagant weddings. The campaign encompasses various wedding themes like Beach Wedding, Nature Wedding, Royal Wedding, Himalayan Wedding, and more, allowing couples to craft their dream celebration in India’s welcoming embrace.

Yadav noted that couples are increasingly open to exploring exotic locations for their weddings. India’s blend of tradition and modernity, along with its cost-effectiveness, positions it as an attractive choice for couples seeking a memorable destination wedding.
