Why So Many of Us Are Choosing NEET Life

NEET life for Gen Z

Ditch the boring “get a job, retire at 67” script! Forget climbing the corporate ladder – Gen Z is chilling in NEET life, focusing on what truly matters to us. Buckle up, we’re redefining adulthood!

What's NEET?

Imagine this: no job, no school, no training. That’s the NEET life – Not in Education, Employment, or Training. Sounds pretty chill, right? Millions of young people around the world are feeling the same way.

Why the NEET Life?

The reasons are kind of stacked against us. Finding a job? Harder than getting a participation trophy these days. (Seriously, 44% of us agree.) Promotions? Even trickier.  Buying a house? Forget about it – apparently, it was way easier for our parents. This isn’t just a few slackers though, a whopping 20% of people between 15 and 24 are classified as NEETs worldwide.

Is it All About Laziness?

Hold up. Not everyone who’s NEET is just being lazy. Researchers say a mental health crisis might be playing a big role. We’re stressed, anxious, and depressed way more than millennials were at our age. Feeling burnt out? Us too. We’re taking more sick leave than our Gen X counterparts, which isn’t exactly a good look.

But the Money Thing Doesn't Help

Let’s face it, adulting is expensive. We’re dealing with inflation that’s making everything cost more, houses that nobody can afford and degrees that leave us with mountains of debt. So, what are we supposed to do?  Honestly, a lot of us are just trying to stay afloat. We can’t exactly plan for the future when the present feels so shaky.

Is NEETing the Answer?

The jury’s still out on that one.  But one thing’s for sure: the world of work just isn’t working for a lot of Gen Z. We gotta figure something out, and maybe NEETing is just a sign that the whole system needs a major reset. Whether it’s work, school, or just finding yourself, gotta do what works for you.
