Oracle has once again achieved a perfect score of 100 on the Disability: IN Equality Index, marking its seventh year receiving this accolade and the fifth consecutive year in the United States. This year, Oracle also earned top scores in Brazil, Germany, and the UK, reflecting the company’s global commitment to disability inclusion.
The core group that drives it!
Central to Oracle’s inclusive culture is the Oracle Diverse Abilities Network (ODAN), an Employee Resource Group (ERG) dedicated to supporting employees with disabilities, caretakers, and allies. ODAN, celebrating its fourth anniversary this July during Disability Pride Month, has grown to represent neurodiverse individuals and caregivers. The group hosts events and panels to raise awareness and foster dialogue, understanding, and respect.
ODAN co-chair Shanna Groves, who has bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, emphasizes the importance of diverse representation. Groves has become an advocate and board member for D/deaf and hearing loss associations. Julian Morrin, ODAN lead for Japan and Asia Pacific, shares his journey as a parent of a neurodiverse child and someone diagnosed with ADHD and autism. Both Groves and Morrin highlight the critical support and community ODAN provides.
Oracle’s inclusion efforts are driven by a community-focused approach, exemplified by:
- Personalized Accessibility: Accessibility Evangelist Don Mauck, who is blind, advocates for adapted workflows that empower him to work independently, showcasing the importance of communication and collaboration in accessibility.
- Motivation and Mentorship: Software development intern Cosmo Trikes found professional confidence and leadership skills through mentorship at Oracle, highlighting the impact of supportive colleagues.
- Awareness and Advocacy: Senior Customer Service Manager Rachel Blake became an advocate for Autism awareness after her son’s diagnosis, reflecting Oracle’s culture of celebrating diverse abilities.
Oracle’s commitment to disability inclusion is backed by its consistent high scores on the Disability Equality Index and the positive impact on its employees. The company continues to evolve its practices to meet the diverse needs of its workforce, striving to create a fairer and more inclusive workplace for all.
