Feeling Hangry? Omega-3 Might Be the Chill Pill You Need

Omega-3 to reduce your anger level

Feeling hangry and ready to rage? Hold up! Science just dropped some serious knowledge about how what you eat can affect your mood. Turns out, a specific supplement called omega-3 might be the secret weapon to chilling you out. A new study by the University of Pennsylvania looked at a bunch of other studies (like, 29 of them!) and found that omega-3 supplements could reduce anger by a whopping 28%!

Omega-3: Your New BFF for Anger Management

This isn’t the first time omega-3 has been in the spotlight. We already know it helps with brain stuff and might even prevent some health problems. But this study shows it can calm you down too.    Here’s the coolest part: it doesn’t matter if you’re young, old, dude, or chick – it seemed to work for everyone.

The study also showed that omega-3 chills you out in two ways:

  1. Reactive Aggression: This is when someone yells at you and you yell back (think road rage).
  2. Proactive Aggression: This is the kind of anger where you plan something mean.

This seems to be a general anger-fighter, no matter how your mad comes out.

How Does This Magic Work?

Scientists aren’t 100% sure yet, but they think it might have something to do with how these chills out inflammation in your brain.  Less inflammation might mean a calmer you.

Omega-3 Power Up: Fish, Flaxseeds, and More!

So, how do you get your daily dose of chill? There are two ways:

  • Food Power: Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines are loaded with omega-3s. Plant-based options include flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts. You can also drizzle some flaxseed or canola oil on your meals.
  • Supplement Squad: Omega-3 supplements are widely available, usually as fish oil capsules. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, there are algae oil options too!

Is This a Cure-All for Anger Issues?

Hold on there, tiger. This study is pretty cool, but more research is needed.  However, it’s a step in the right direction! This isn’t a magic anger eraser, but it could be a helpful tool, especially when combined with other strategies.

The bottom line?  Science is saying chow down on some fish or pop an omega-3 supplement, and you might just be a calmer, happier you.
