What keeps the world turning? While love and money often claim the spotlight, food holds the real power. From street-side delicacies to fine dining, it unites cultures and sparks joy. With this in mind, in 2025 the Michelin Guide releases its list of the most exciting foodie destinations across the globe, with cities that marry culinary traditions with innovation.
Mixing up the traditional with the modern
In the Americas, Mexico City shines as The Great Gastronomical Center where ancient traditions get a twist with a modern flair. Michelin has put the likes of two-starred restaurants-most notably Pujol and Quintonil-alongside street vendors in Mercado de San Juan. With street food galore, rich classic Mexican dishes like tacos al pastor, tamales, and pozole tell the ancient story of their culinary lineage.
Interestingly, for the first time, the Michelin Guide expands to include coverage of Mexico as of May 2024, illustrating its increasing global recognition.
In Asia, the Fujian province of China is renowned for its aromatic broths and seafood-centered cuisine. In addition, the colorful cities of Thailand such as Bangkok, Koh Samui, and Phuket, as well as Osaka in Japan and Da Nang in Vietnam, made the cut, highlighting the diversity and richness of the food scenes in the Region.
Vienna in Austria, the city that merges the Old great Austro-Hungarian system with modern take, adds its voice to that of Europe, while Amsterdam from the Netherlands is known for being a cradle of culinary designs. Bath, England, also receives recognition for its gastronomic evolution. Other notable destinations in the Americas include Austin and Miami in the USA, celebrated for their unique food scenes.
These cities are united by their ability to offer unforgettable culinary experiences, whether through humble street food or Michelin-starred excellence. For food enthusiasts, these destinations are not just about meals—they’re about cultural immersion and stories told through flavors.
So, what truly makes the world go around? It might just be the universal love of food.
