A live-action adaptation of My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 has been announced, set for release in Japan on March 28, 2025. The film stars Ryuto Sakuma as Akito Yamada and Mizuki Yamashita as Akane Kinoshita, with a newly released visual and teaser trailer giving fans an early look at the beloved characters.
The Story
Akane Kinoshita, a college student, is devastated after her boyfriend cheats on her with someone he met in an online game. To cope, she dives into the game herself, releasing her frustrations in the virtual world. During a hunting mission, she meets “Yamada,” a guild member she confides in about her heartbreak. His only response: “I don’t care.” Later, Akane decides to transform her look and attend an offline event to show her ex what he’s missing. There, she encounters Yamada again, and his blunt attitude unexpectedly sparks the beginning of something new.

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 is a popular manga series written and illustrated by Mashiro. First serialized on Comic Smart’s Ganma! website in March 2019, the manga has been a hit with readers, with nine volumes released as of April 2024. The manga is also available digitally in English through Mangamo, and it expanded to print in collaboration with Penguin Random House’s Inklore imprint, with the first print volume released in April 2024.
The series gained further attention with its anime adaptation, which premiered in April 2023. Animated by studio MADHOUSE, the 13-episode TV anime was well-received and even earned 4th place in the Spring 2023 Anime Awards. Directed by Morio Asaka, the anime featured Yasuhiro Nakanishi on series composition, Kunihiko Hamada as character designer and chief animation director, and a memorable soundtrack by De De Mouse and Mito.
